Happy Wednesday, folks.
Have you ever wanted to do some good out there in the world, but think, “Hey! Someone else will do take care of that.”
Of course you have…we’ve all been in that headspace.
This past week I had a nice breakfast with two wonderful business people who moonlight as Girl Scout volunteers [specifically on our Foundation Committee where it is our job to raise funds for the sustainability of the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore.]
And what we came up with is that beyond the quarterly meetings, we don’t see hid nor hair from many of our members. Asking them to give of their time is like pulling teeth, and asking them to give money – well, you can only imagine.
Any one on any board can empathize with our plight.
So, why did they sign up in the first place?
Perhaps they really did have good intentions when they made their commitment, and then life “got in the way”.
Maybe they don’t have the time or money because their family was severely effected by Hurricane Sandy last year.
Insecure that they don’t have the gifts or strengths to make a difference? Is that it?
Or maybe, it’s because they think that someone else will take care of it.
Guess what.
No one else is doing it.
And even if they were, they can’t replace what you’d bring to the table.
Step up to the mic, ladies + gents.
When you say yes to something, jump in with both feet. Take a stand. Help out. It could be moula, time, word-of-mouth awareness – it doesn’t matter what it is – but make your contribution to this world something.
This year, I’m proud to serve on the committee honoring women and organizations of distinction in our area. I was pleased to be asked, but wasn’t fully committed to the request until I learned that we were also having a special designation this year – and we’d also be celebrating young women of distinction.
The group of girls who we are honoring are so special, that when I met them in person, I knew I was standing in greatness. They give me goosebumps. They make my eyes tear with pride. They give me a boatload of hope.
And I want to share them with you.
As we celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, consider what would happen if these girls said, “Hey, we should make a PSA asking moms to do something amazing for their daughters…or maybe someone else will do it.”

Thank you, ladies, for taking the lead.
In love,
