Happy Wednesday, folks.
After two days at my Intensive in Newark, I am happy to be home.
Hours of note-taking, proclaiming a-has, and making myself vulnerable in the midst of my colleagues left me feeling very, very full.
That being said, my friends…
My Juicy Glad-I-Caught-That: When your mind is ready to move into action – it’s amazing how much you can absorb.
One of the most impactful takeaways was being paired up with my first accountability partner. More specifically, the guidance I received around how to have my weekly call with her.
It seems simple enough. Two women on the phone. Hmmmm. But it’s so much more than that.
We had our kick-off chat this morning. Here is the set structure of our call:
- Share a celebration.
- Be held accountable for the previous week’s goals.
- Declare goals for the current/upcoming week.
Thirty minutes – 15 apiece – and it’s like a having a post-it note taped to my shirt for the next week.
It’s smiling + finger-waving at me at the same time. It’s cheering me on + asking me thought-provoking questions. It’s getting very, very clear about what I need to do in order to come to next week’s call with my goals firmly checked-off of my list.
It’s pretty great to have someone to call on – someone who holds the vision of my business with + for me – and someone with whom I am able to reciprocate.
It’s an effective use of 30-minutes a week.
Until now, I have enjoyed believing that I hold myself accountable. I make lots of notes + get a kick out of marking tasks off of my list. And there are times – moments, days, weeks – when I am really good at being honest + holding myself to the highest standard.
And then there’s the rest of the time.
My sweetheart and I had a conversation over sushi last night about accountability. He didn’t know that this was my topic for today, and so I inwardly grinned as he told me how he felt about the subject. Too broad and loosey-goosey [my words, not his]. So, we talked about specific competencies + concrete examples of implementing those strategies. It was a great conversation with someone who knows his stuff. And while he was right in many ways, I believe that there is a place for the term “accountable”. Even if it is just during my weekly check-in with Jenny J
Who’s holding you accountable in your business?
My new program, Pen Your Processes, is one way that you can do this for yourself. Because when you get the ideas out of your head + into a document, you’re putting it out in to the universe that this is how you want something done.
And when you want it done.
And why you want it done.
And, maybe best of all, who should get it done.
Because once it’s out of your head, you can ask someone – almost anyone – else to do it for you.
If you are ready to do this, send me an email + we can connect to see if this program is a good fit for you.
One lucky blog subscriber [make yourself one of these cool people by click “Notify me of new posts by email” below] is going to receive my program at no-cost. So add your name to the hat + keep checking me out.
But beware – this is not for the faint-of-heart! If you come to me for help, you’ll need to be ready to receive it. Guess who’s going to hold you accountable to take this awesome step for your small business? This girl.
In love,
N
